Spring Brings Ticks, Ticks Bring Lyme Disease

🌿 Spring Brings Ticks—Ticks Bring Lyme Disease

Spring is here—birds chirp, flowers bloom, and unfortunately… ticks return. These tiny pests hitch rides on dogs, deer, and even you, potentially bringing Lyme disease with them. Here’s what you need to know.

🦠 What Is Lyme Disease?

Lyme disease is the most common vector-borne illness in the U.S. and is growing rapidly worldwide. The CDC reports over 180,000 cases annually, but actual infections may reach 1.8 million due to under-reporting.

While most associate Lyme with tick bites, studies now show it may also be spread by:

  • Mosquitos

  • Spiders

  • Fleas

  • Mites

  • Stinging flies

The culprit? A corkscrew-shaped bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi, which can invade multiple body systems, remain dormant, and resurface when your immune system is down.

⚠️ Stages of Lyme Disease

Stage 1:

  • Flu-like symptoms

  • Bull’s-eye rash (in only 25% of cases)

  • Treatable with antibiotics

Stage 2:

  • Muscle aches

  • Migrating joint pain

  • Fatigue

  • Weight gain/loss

Stage 3:

  • Neurological issues

  • Severe fatigue

  • Memory problems

  • Chronic pain

🧬 Co-Infections

Lyme often brings friends. Weakened immune systems can allow co-infections such as:

  • Bacteria: Bartonella, Ehrlichia, Mycoplasma

  • Viruses: Herpes family, Coxsackie, CMV

  • Parasites and Fungus: Babesia, Candida, etc.

Because Borrelia can change shape (spirochetal to cystic form), treatment is especially complex and must address co-infections as well.

💊 Hope from a Lyme Study Using Allicin

In a 2006 pilot study, 10 patients with chronic Lyme who failed traditional antibiotic treatments were placed on a natural therapy using stabilized allicin (from garlic) via a supplement called Allimed. Results were compared to 10 patients continuing conventional therapy.

Protocol:

  • Started with 1 capsule 3x/day

  • Increased to 2 capsules 3x/day

  • Others took 3–10 liquid drops 3x/day

Some patients experienced a Herxheimer reaction (detox symptoms), but results were dramatic.

✅ Study Results

  • 85% showed little to no evidence of Lyme disease by the end

  • Marked reduction in spirochetes and cystic bacteria forms

  • White blood cells improved; red blood cells no longer clumped

  • Stabilized allicin showed powerful antimicrobial effects

  • Also effective against Staph, E. coli, Candida, H. pylori, and cold viruses
