The Coming Crisis in Antibiotics
Antibiotic drugs have saved countless lives, but they’re now being overused — often for non-critical issues such as the flu or to produce cheaper poultry. According to researcher Ramanan Laxminarayan, this misuse is fueling antibiotic resistance, meaning bacteria are adapting faster than our ability to treat them.
He urges both doctors and patients to treat antibiotics as a finite and shared resource. If we don’t, the effectiveness of these life-saving drugs will diminish for everyone. This TED Talk is a sobering look at a growing global crisis with deeply personal implications.
